Woman Paralyzed By Suspected Drunk Driver

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A Pompano Beach woman was left paralyzed after Broward Sheriff Investigators said a drunk driver hit her car Sunday.

Kim Smith, 55, a therapeutic recreational therapist was heading home from work at Imperial Point Hospital when BSO officials said a driver slammed into her in the 4100 block of Federal Highway in Lighthouse Point.

"I was waiting at home and got a call at two in the morning there had been an accident," her son Daniel told CBS4.

"She has had two surgeries, one for her legs and one to stop blood clots," said Daniel Smith.

According to BSO, the driver of the car that hit Smith is 29-year-old Michael Anguille.

BSO arrested him for drunk driving.  Officials say it is his third arrest for DUI.

"He was going at a high-rate of speed.   We are asking anyone who saw the accident to call investigators" said spokeswoman Gina Carter.
