FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- A man is in custody after police say he went on a driving crime spree Thursday morning in Fort Lauderdale.

It began about 8:30 a.m. when police say Dameon Wilke of Fort Lauderdale got into an accident and then carjacked a woman off Cypress Creek Road.

Wilke allegedly demanded the woman's keys as she was getting out of her vehicle but she refused and they struggled. Wilke pushed her to the ground and drove off in her vehicle, police said.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries.

But this apparently wasn't the only incident.

Lorenzo Woodburn says the suspect crashed a Blue Sonata in some bushes off Powerline Road before rushing towards his vehicle.

He says the suspect tried to carjack him but he punched him to fend him off.

"He said come on come on come on and I punched him," said the man.

Shortly afterwards police apprehended Wilke.
