Witnesses horrified by hit and run crash that killed woman in Golden Glades

MIAMI - Abel St-Surin and his cousin Oliver will never forget the scene they saw Sunday morning, a woman lying dead in the street as they set up their t-shirt stand.

"It's not something I wanna remember," Abel said

"That was very shocking to my mind," Oliver said. "I had to take a little bit of time to process."

Miami-Dade police said a car was heading south on NE 6th Avenue when it hit the woman while she was crossing NE 149th Street.

"That's un-human," Jama Étienne said. "You cannot hit someone and just walk away like that."

The cousins watched first responders try to help her.

"I saw the lady' Abel said. "She was on the ground and I was like, get up. And I thought that she just fell or something."

A woman who didn't want her name used in this report told CBS News Miami's Stephen Maugeri the woman who died would often come to the area when she'd sell her hats and products. She said she didn't know the woman by name.

"I just really wish that the driver would stop," the woman said. "It's an accident but you guys make it worse when you hit someone. She's not an animal and you leave the scene. She has family," she said.

Police have not released the name of the woman who died. The cousins are confident the driver will be caught.
