Woman Bitten By Shark Off Cocoa Beach

COCOA BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) - Stitches in her leg from a shark bite are not exactly the souvenir a Colorado woman was hoping to take home from her trip to Florida.

Jill Kruse, 28, was vacationing her family when she was bitten on the ankle and calf by a shark Sunday afternoon while she was in waist deep water off Cocoa Beach.

Several people helped get her out of the water and applied pressure to the wound until help arrived.

Family members said Kruse may have to have surgery to repair the damage done by the bite.

Brevard County Ocean Rescue Chief Jeff Scabarozi said they haven't determined what kind of shark bit her. He added that a variety of sharks are in the water along that stretch of the Florida coastline.
