DEERFIELD BEACH (CBSMiami) -- A man - wanted for robbing a Deerfield Beach restaurant- has witnesses calling him "very polite."

Broward Sheriff's deputies say the man remains at large but they have good video footage of the incident.

In the video, the masked man, armed with a gun, was seen walking into the Little Caesars restaurant located at 1462 S. Federal Highway on December 9th.

A stunned customer - seen standing by the register - did not move.

Witnesses said in a tone they called "very polite," he asked for cash, even saying "please."

"He very politely and calmly asked her to please open the safe to give her all the money. He was very polite, very courteous and very apologetic," said Gina Carter with the Broward Sheriff's Office.

He then started apologizing profusely saying he was "sorry for doing this" but his "kids need Christmas."

Johnny Louis was in the back washing dishes and remembers the gunman was soft-spoken.

"He was whispering not yelling, not demanding, acting nicely. It s almost like he didn't want to rob the store but he needed the money," said Louis.

The safe was empty but the clerk scooped out all the money in the registers which the robber stuffed into his backpack before running off. It is unclear if  he fled on foot or in a getaway car.

"Though it shows us that he is remorseful for what he's doing, he obviously knows that what he is doing is very wrong and that he is putting these people in fear for their lives," said Carter.

Deputies describe the masked bandit as a black male with light complexion, medium frame, about 5'8" and looks nearly in his 20s. He wore a dark gray sweatshirt with the word "Nike" in black letters, dark pants and black gloves. Witnesses said he had a mustache and was sporting a gold grill on his teeth.

"We are asking anyone who recognizes him in the video to please contact the Broward Sheriff's Office or Crimestoppers," said Carter.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to call Broward County Crimestoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
