Winter Weather Beginning To Head South

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A very powerful storm is bringing the first winter weather of the season to the northeast, and with that, South Florida will see a cool Monday.

Along with snow and sleet there have been wind gusts close to 50 mph along with temperature drops of 30 degrees or more recorded in just a few hours. The cold front that brought that change there did move through our area early Sunday.

Although it did not give the region a significant temperature drop, it did change our wind direction just enough to allow for some very dry air to start moving into the area. This, combined with a clear sky and a light breeze, will let the temperatures really drop after sunset Sunday evening.

By Monday morning, the entire area will be below 60 degrees with some areas inland dropping into the lower 50s.

The chill Monday morning will be brief as the clear skies and dry air will allow for plenty of sunshine and a quick warm up Monday morning. By noon Monday, the entire area should see temperatures into the 70s.

After Monday, the wind shifts just enough to allow for moisture to return from the Atlantic, which will limit how low our temperatures can go at night. Lows will remain above 60 degrees for the remainder of the week.
