Winston Plans To Play 2 More Years For FSU
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) – If you felt a huge gust of wind from the north this morning, it wasn't a cold front moving in. Instead, it was a huge sigh of relief from the Florida State coaching staff and Seminoles fans.
FSU quarterback Jameis Winston said he was planning on playing two more years at the school before heading for the National Football League. Winston, also a baseball player, led the Noles to a 14-0 record and the national championship this season.
"Obviously I'm a big baseball person, so that's an accurate statement because I plan on playing baseball next season anyway," Winston said.
The Hueytown High product and Heisman trophy winner is expected to be the sixth-ranked Seminoles closer this season. Some analysts, including NFL Media's Gil Brandt, said Winston could be the No. 1 overall selection in next year's NFL Draft if he declared early.
Winston completed 257 of 384 passing attempts for 4,057 yards and 40 touchdowns while being picked off just 10 times this past season.
In his freshman year of baseball, Winston played in 41 games. He posted a 1-2 record with a 3.00 earned run average while striking out 21 batters in 27 innings.
