Wet & Windy Hump Day

MIAMI (CBS4) - Another cool start for South Florida on Wednesday.

Morning lows were in the mid to upper 50s with off and on showers.

In the afternoon we'll "warm-up" with highs near 70. Our normal or "average" high temperature for this time of year is 76 and low temperature is 60. Also in the afternoon winds will shift, becoming northeast at 10 mph to 20 mph, and as a result a Small Craft Advisory is in place for waters offshore until 7pm this evening.

As our winds eventually shift to the northeast this afternoon, the rip current risk is on the high side, simply put, swimming is not advised today.

On Tuesday, January 7th, Miami set a "record low maximum temperature" of 58 degrees. The old record was 61 degrees set back in 2006.

We are going to hang on to that chance for rain through Thursday. If you are not a fan of the colder weather that came in behind that strong cold front late Monday, hang in there, Friday things really start to improve, as clouds thin out and high temperatures climb back into the lower 80s.

This warming trend will continue through the weekend, with highs both Saturday and Sunday in the lower 80s and lows in the lower 70s. And if you have travel plans, friends and or family to the north, the extreme cold air will slowly move out by the weekend.
