Possible attempted kidnapping investigated in Weston, sheriff’s office said

The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) said a possible kidnapping attempt in Weston on Monday morning was deemed to be unfounded following an investigation.

The alleged incident took place near the Sagemont Preparatory School in Weston, but a sheriff's deputy told CBS News Miami that the school was not connected to the investigation.

Still, parents CBS News Miami spoke with said they were concerned to hear of the alleged incident, and said it served as a reminder to remind their children to stay safe and vigilant.

"I'm always worried for their safety no matter where we are," Erika Hutchinson said. "I've always discussed with them, walk together to the bus stop. You're not on your phone when you're out walking the dogs or anything."

Officials said deputies had been searching for a dark blue minivan, possibly a Honda or Hyundai with a "masked and hooded" male driver.

After an investigation, the Broward Sheriff's Office said the case was unfounded.
