MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Miami-Dade police called in a bomb squad after a suspicious object was discovered at a Burger King.

It happened early Tuesday afternoon at the restaurant located at 7070 Bird Road.

Officers told CBS 4, they were initially called for a man who had erratic behavior.

Police, who responded, noticed something suspicious next to him. That's when the restaurant was evacuated and detained a that man for questioning.

Miami-Dade Police Homeland Security Bureau is investigating.

Authorities say the process could take some time and that the restaurant will remain closed until the morning.

They also added that the investigation process could lead to the searching of other places.

Police have confirmed that whatever was inside the suspicious package was detonated in the parking lot.

There has been no name released to the person who has been detained, nor has there been any update on charges filed.

Traffic in the area of Bird Road and the Palmetto Expressway was greatly impacted due to the incident.

Officials closed the on and off ramps to the highway, and a stretch of Bird Road was shut down as well.

All roads and ramps have since reopened.

One woman who was shopping nearby saw the commotion and feared for her safety.

"I wanted to know what's going on and what's happening," said Nicole Tesar. "If I'm safe or not."

Burger King released a statement regarding the incident that read:

"The safety of our guests and team members is always important to us. We are fully cooperating with the Miami-Dade authorities to assist in this ongoing investigation."
