Wawrinka Wins Opening Match At Key Biscayne

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. (AP) — Stanislas Wawrinka won his opening match Saturday at the Sony Open, beating Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-0, 3-6, 6-3.

The No. 3-seeded Wawrinka, who won the Australian Open in January, hit 33 winners and improved to 14-1 this year.

No. 12 Ana Ivanovic advanced to the fourth round by beating No. 20 Flavia Pennetta 6-4, 6-3. Ivanovic improved to 5-1 this year against top-20 players.

No. 5 Angelique Kerber defeated Tsvetana Pironkova 6-0, 6-2.

Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Rafael Nadal were among those scheduled to play later Saturday.
