Water Main Break In Southwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Large amounts of water spewed onto the street in Southwest Miami-Dade, near Pinecrest, Thursday after a 12-inch water main broke.

According to Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department,it happened at SW 84 Street and 49 Avenue.

A neighbor caught sight of the flooding.

"I can't stand it. I'm going to see what happened out there. Maybe President Obama was in town. Wasn't he here last week. I turned around the corner here and almost had a heart attack because it was all flooded," said Betty Mosley.

The water lapped up against her garage and building while across the street driveway pavers started to float away.

Crews had to lower water pressure in the area to make the repairs, so residents who live along Southwest 49^th Avenue between Southwest 80^{th -}88^th Streets may experience lower than normal water pressure.

The crews discovering an aging 12-inch water main exploded leaving behind the Venetian canal.

"It's a big mess but thank God it didn't go in the front door because it was going up there fast," said Mosley.

Traffic is being detoured on Southwest 49^th Avenue between Southwest 82^nd and Southwest 86^th Street, so drivers are encouraged to avoid the area.

The department said crews on site are making repairs. No one is without water

The bad pipe is out and a new one is on it's way in. They say they'll be able to turn the spicket back on sometime Thursday night.

Boiling water is not necessary, but if you live along 49^th avenue between 80^th street and Kendall Drive, you may want to take a shower in the morning, as the water pressure may be lower than what you are used to.
