MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The South Miami home of an army veteran received a much-needed improvement Tuesday—all at no cost for the 85-year-old.

Vergaree Brown served one year in Korea in the 325th Engineering Aviation Group.

Brown eventually moved to Miami, married and settled into his South Miami home, at 5875 SW 62nd Terrace, in 1972.

Brown worked for the University of Miami Environmental Services and Mercy Hospital Environmental Services before retiring.

Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade, along with over 20 volunteers from Lowe's, provided repairs to Brown's home Tuesday. The renovations include a complete bathroom and kitchen renovation and interior painting—all part of a $10,000 grant from Lowe's.

Brown, at his home Tuesday, said he just wishes he done the same thing for someone else in need when he was younger.

He told CBS4's Walter Makaula that when he received word of the home renovations that he, "reacted like I was just a little young buck."

Rebuilding Together is a non-profit organization that preserves homeownership and revitalizes neighborhoods by providing free rehabilitation services to low-income, elderly, veterans and disabled homeowners.

Lowe's has donated $250,000 to 27 Rebuilding Together affiliates to assist low-income homeowners across the county.
