HOUSTON (CBSMiami) - It was a shot and win for the ages.

The Villanova Wildcats had the perfect counter punch to an already amazing game-tying bucket just seconds earlier by North Carolina's Marcus Paige.

"At that point we believed we were going to win. We just need 4.7 seconds of defense. It didn't work out and Kris [Jenkins] is there best 3-point shooter and he got a pretty clean look," Paige said.

"I was able to sprint up the court and get in his vision. I was like, 'Ryan, Ryan!' And like coach said, he made the perfect pass. Every time I one-two step it's definitely going up. So that was going up," Jenkins said.

One game and one shot turned out to be the perfect snap shot of the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.

"I've been a head coach for 28 years and the worst thing is in a loss like this. I feel so inadequate because I don't know how to make it better," said UNC head coach Roy Williams.

"To see their eyes. To see their satisfaction – their enjoyment – there's no better feeling the world for a coach or parent," said Villanova head coach Jay Wright.

Villanova's first title since 1985 was celebrated deep into the night.

From Radnor, PA and throughout Philadelphia, the party started as soon as the shot went up.

Unfortunately for the Tar Heels, the internet moves quickly. A crying picture of notable UNC alum Michael Jordan was photoshopped in every which way.
