MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The family of a Miami teen killed in a hit-and-run accident held a vigil on Friday for the young girl who had a bright future.

Dericka Banks, 18, was struck on February 28th when her boyfriend was walking her home along NW 13th Avenue. The couple was crossing NW 54th Street when her boyfriend, Satchal Rivers, said a car slammed into Dericka and just kept going.

Dericka suffered head trauma, multiple broken bones and is not able to breathe on her own. She died earlier this week.

She had just turned 18 and had big plans for her future. Her family said the high school junior had already received a scholarship for college.

City of Miami Police released flyers on Friday of the possible make and model of the vehicle which hit Dericka.

According to authorities, surveillance video revealed it was a 2008 green Toyota Corolla CE. The vehicle should also have extensive damage to the right front hood area including a smashed windshield. The vehicle also had a for sale sign on the passenger and rear windows.

If you have any information, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
