BREVARD COUNTY (CBSMiami) -- A cashier was able to gain the upper hand during a robbery at a convenience store, forcing the crook to turn and run.

The cashier, a former Iraq veteran, was working inside the Sugar Creek gas station when authorities said a robber came in and demanded money.

Video shows the cashier open the register as the thief points a gun at his back.

But just as the crook thinks he's about to walk away with some free cash, the tables turn and the military vet grabs the gunman, wrestles his gun away and lets the fists fly.

The sudden assault was enough to force the wannabe bandit out of the store empty-handed.

Police are now looking for the guy. No one was hurt.
