HIALEAH (CBSMiami) – Wild video of a road rage incident in Hialeah has gone viral on the internet and the two men involved have shared their version of what happened.

The fight allegedly began behind the wheel and ended up as a struggle on the street Friday afternoon, near 49th Street and West 12th Lane.

"The problem escalated real quick and I'm feeling really sorry for the way I acted," said Hector Herrera, 24, who was the only one charged in the incident. "It was just my instinct."

At the start of the video, Jiaro Linarte, 50, who Hialeah Police are calling the victim, is seen steering his truck onto the sidewalk and into Herrera's car, as he stood on the road with a baseball bat.

"We have some words between windows, then the guy throws the car at me, crashing my car and trying to kill me," Herrera recalled.

Moments earlier, police said Herrera smashed Linarte's passenger side window with the bat. Herrera allegedly "became enraged when he did not allow him to change lanes," an arrest report said.

"I was scared for my life and that's what I had to do," said Linarte, now in a shoulder sling.

Linarte then gets out as Herrera threatens him with the bat and swings. A struggle for the bat takes them into several lanes as another driver tries to get out of the way. At one point, Herrera loses control of the bat and begins throwing punches.

"Unfortunately, I had the bat next to me because I just finished playing baseball," he continued. "I grabbed the bat and I escalated the situation. I feel really sorry because I didn't have to grab the bat. But in this case, I don't think nobody can think right."

An officer ended up arriving on the scene and broke the brawl up.

The police report said Herrera struck Linarte's shoulder during the fight.

Herrera was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and bonded out of jail.
