Veteran Killed In Early Morning Crash

TAMARAC (CBSMiami) -- A driver struck and killed a veteran on his way to a Tamarac hospital Thursday morning.

Broward Sheriff's Deputies said it all happened just before 6:30 a.m.

Edith Nance, 36, was driving her 2005 Acura on the left lane of Commercial Boulevard.

Meantime, 70-year old Willie J. Span was attempting to cross the same boulevard after he had gotten off the bus, heading to the Broward County V.A. Outpatient Clinic.

In that moment, Nance hit Span and severely injured him.

Tamarac Fire Rescue later pronounced him dead at the scene.

Deputies said due to the fact it was dark and Span was wearing dark clothing, the driver could not see him.
