University Of Florida Announces New COO

GAINESVILLE (CBSMiami/AP) — Charles Lane, a senior vice president from the University of Southern California, has been tapped to be the University of Florida's new chief operating officer.

UF President Bernie Machen announced that Lane, an associate senior vice president for career and protective services at USC, will start April 1.

Lane will oversee UF's Division of Business Affairs, Office of Human Resources, Division of Information Technology and Chief Audit Executive.

Lane joined USC in 1991 as director for environmental health and safety. Before that he ran health and safety programs at the University of Houston, at Intermedics and at Texas Instruments.

Lane has been associate senior vice president for career and protective services at the California school since 2005.
