UM's Star Basketball Recruit Arrested For Battery

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- University of Miami's star basketball recruit was arrested, accused of attacking a man he found in his ex-girlfriend's dorm room.
Dewan Antonio Huell, 19, the 215 pound power forward for the UM basketball team - is facing one count of battery.
He was a five-star recruit for the Canes and played at Miami Norland Senior High School. Now, a new police report is painting a different picture of him.
According to his arrest report, Huell - uninvited - walked into his ex-girlfriend's dorm room around 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Florida International University (FIU).
That's when, police say, he saw his ex-girlfriend had a male guest hiding in the closet with her.
Huell reportedly grabbed the man by his shirt collar and "forcefully dragged him out of the room." The incident left the man with scratches and abrasions on his upper chest.
FIU Police responded and arrested Huell. He was transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center but has since bonded out on $1,500.
CBS4's Peter D'Oench stopped at Huell's family home in northwest Miami-Dade County but no one there wanted to comment.
Huell picked the Canes over South Carolina as well as Florida State University because he said he wanted to stay close to home and had a good feeling about UM.
In a statement, Blake James, the UM Director of Athletics said, "I am aware of the reported incident involving Dewan Huell last night and we are still gathering information. I have very high expectations for all of our student-athletes, as I know Coach Laranaga does for his team and any misconduct will be addressed."
Huell's status with the basketball program is not clear. He has said his goal is to become a NBA player.
D'Oench called his phone number but Huell did not respond.
