U.S. To Evaluate Obama's Possible Trip To Cuba

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The U.S. government is set to evaluate whether President Barack Obama will visit Cuba, amid changing relations between the two nations.

According to our news partners El Nuevo Herald, starting in January 2016 the administration will evaluate if the president will travel to the island nation to conclude his effort for renewed diplomatic relations.

A source at the White House told the paper the possible trip would depend on the progress of diplomatic relations between the two and how "the Cubans act."

Meantime, the government is preparing new regulations in regards to travel to Cuba and financial transactions in the island nation.

There is speculation the government is considering changes to regulation in "town to town" trips which are currently available to those who fit under specific categories like educational trips or those that have a journalistic purpose, among other categories.

The news comes just days after the U.S. reopened its Cuban embassy in Washington, D.C.
