Two Teens Killed, Another Hospitalized In Deadly Homestead Crash

HOMESTEAD (CBSMiami) – A violent crash, as described by Homestead police, claimed the life of two teenagers and sent another to the Ryder Trauma Center on Monday.

The teen's father spoke with us outside the hospital.

"He's in good spirits," said Eddie Lipscomb. "He's laughing. He's joking."

Chopper4 was over the scene as police responded to the area of SW 137th Ave. and 304th St. at around 4:45 p.m. when a vehicle collided with a tree.

"Two were ejected from the vehicle.  One remained in the vehicle.  He was extricated from the vehicle," said Homestead Police Department Det. Fernando Morales. "The driver was 18 years old and the passenger was 17 years old, and the one who was airlifted was 18 years old."

This fatal crash happening just two days after another crash in the Woodlands killed an 18-year-old and sent his four friends to the hospital.

Miami-Dade police say the driver, 18-year-old Ned Alvarez, was killed instantly when his Nissan Altima hit a wall at SW 62nd St. and SW 138th Pass early Saturday morning.

The four passengers, all 18 years of age, had to be extricated.

Homestead police say the three teens in Monday's crash were students at Keys Gate Charter School.

A woman who says she's the neighbor of the teen who was driving says he'd just gotten his car.

"They just bought him the car.  He just showed it to me two weeks ago.  They just gave it to him.  He's been asking for a car and they didn't want to give it to him," she said.
