Two Sarasota Cops Save Baby Choking On Chicken Bone

SARASOTA (CBSMiami/AP) — Quick thinking by two Sarasota police officers helped save the life of an 11-month old baby.

Officers Dominic Harris and Steven Fergus were on patrol Wednesday when they noticed several women holding a baby upside down. They stopped and were told the baby was choking on chicken bone.

While Fergus called for help, Harris began performing the Heimlich maneuver on the baby to dislodge the bone.

Police say the baby started breathing but was still in distress.

The child was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery. Police said the infant is expected to make a full recovery.
