SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) -- Police are searching for the two men who were involved in a violent carjacking overnight in Coral Gables.

Two men had driven a rental car to S.W. 253rd Street and 135th Court around 9 p.m. Tuesday night to meet some other people, possibly to buy a car, according to police. Once they arrived, they were violently attacked by three men and robbed of their rental car.

"Once officers arrived, they found two males. One suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and the other had been pistol-whipped," said Det. Robin Pinkard of the Miami-Dade Police Dept.

Sometime after, officers were able to track down the stolen Seabring -- but the driver refused to stop. He led police on a chase into Coral Gables where he hit a dead-end, ditched the car and tried to make a run for it.

A resident who lives nearby said cops searched through his backyard and eventually caught up with their suspect.

"Looking for the guy and looking for the gun all over the place," said Ariel Gonzalez. "They caught one guy."

The driver, a 17-year old, was charged with charged with Grand Theft Auto, Fleeing and Eluding and Resisting An Officer Without Violence.
