MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Two people were rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital Friday afternoon after a driver crashed into a bus bench in Kendall.

The accident was reported near Dadeland Mall, in the area of North Kendall Drive and Southwest 77th Avenue.

"The car hit them and one of the girls was under the car," said witness Jessica Eisenberg.

The driver, who was identified as John William Fernandez, 42, tried to flee on foot but was captured shortly after the crash.

It was the last of several crashes involving the same driver, according to police.

Police said a non-injury accident at Bird Road and 82 Avenue and another on the Palmetto Expressway at Sunset Road preceded the final crash.

A person was injured in the crash on the Palmetto, police said.

A total of three people were injured by Fernandez.

Chopper4 showed a silver newer-model Toyota Prius vehicle stopped on the sidewalk and an overturned bus bench. Authorities had placed yellow tape over the scene.

Police said Fernandez was taken to a Larkin hospital for evaluation.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Fernandez is facing several felony charges, including hit-run with injuries.

They say he has a suspended driver's license and had gotten into a heated argument with his mother prior to the crash.

The condition of those injured is currently unknown.
