Two Dallas Players Fined For Infractions Against Miami

IRVING (CBSMiami/AP) — Almost a week after the Miami Dolphins and Dallas Cowboys battled each other in the third "dress rehearsal" preseason game, the NFL has passed judgments on a couple of infractions made by Dallas players.

The bigger of the fines was levied on Cowboys rookie safety Ahmad Dixon.  He's been fined $22,050 for an illegal hit on Dolphins rookie receiver Matt Hazel during the fourth quarter of Miami's 25-20 victory.

Dixon was penalized for unnecessary roughness for hitting Hazel after the ball had sailed past him near the goal line during Miami's game-winning touchdown drive in the final minutes. He was fined for hitting a defenseless player in the head and neck area.

After the game, Dixon said he didn't care how many times he got fined but softened those comments this week.

While at Baylor last year, Dixon was ejected from a game under the college targeting rule for hitting a receiver with his helmet.

Additionally, Dallas linebacker Anthony Hitchens was fined $8,268 for a facemask penalty in the Miami game.

The Dolphins concluded the preseason with a 14-13 win over the St. Louis Rams to finish their exhibition schedule with a 3-1 record. Dallas completed the preseason 0-4 after losing their finale to the Denver Broncos, 27-3.
