FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- Authorities have ruled the death of a man, found floating in a Fort Lauderdale waterway as a homicide.

On Tuesday, detectives identified the victim as 60-year old Jerome P. Harte who was considered homeless.

Along with an identity, Fort Lauderdale Police said two people have been charged in connection to his death.

David Harrison, 24, and Ashley Barrientos, 24, also considered homeless, allegedly had an ongoing dispute with Harte.

Officers said they had also made threats toward him prior to his death.

Police do not believe Harte was targeted due to his homeless lifestyle.

All this comes a day after Harte was found floating  in the Middle River waterway inside George English Park at around 7:00 a.m.

Once officers arrived they were able to pull his body out of the water for further investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493- TIPS.
