MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A newly released poll finds Donald Trump coming out of the Republican National Convention leading Hillary Clinton in the race for the White House.

According to the CNN/ORC poll, Trump is topping the former secretary of state 48 percent to 45 percent.

This is the best Trump has done in a CNN/ORC poll since September 2015.

The rise is attributed to increased support among independents for Trump - 43 percent of which said the convention left them more likely to back him while 41% were dissuaded.

The poll results came from interviews with 1,001 adult Americans by ORC International from July 22 to July 24th. The margin of error for this poll is plus or minus 3 percent.

The release of the poll comes as Democratic delegates get ready to officially nominate Clinton this week.
