Poorly Formed Erika Continues Toward The Leeward Islands

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Tropical Storm Erika has weakened slightly and is poorly formed as it continues its trek toward the Leeward Islands, with South Florida now in the 5-day forecast cone.
At 11 p.m. the center of the system is located about 495 miles east of Antigua with maximum sustained winds near 40 miles per hour.
Tropical Storm force winds extend outward up to 80 mph from the center. Some slow strengthening is possible during the next 48 hours.
Erika is moving toward the west near 18 mph, and a westward to west-northwestward motion with a slight decrease in forward speed is expected during the next 48 hours.
On the forecast track, the center of Erika will be near the Leeward Islands Wednesday night and early Thursday.
Tropical Storm Watches have been issued for St. Maarten, Montserrat, Antigua, Barbuda, St. Kitts, Nevis, Anguilla, Saba, St. Eustatius, Guadeloupe, St. Martin, Puerto Rico, U.S Virgin Islands and St. Barthelemy.
