Tropical Storm Karl Continues Over Open Atlantic

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Karl, the 12th tropical storm of this year's hurricane season, is continuing its westward trek across the open Atlantic.

At 11 p.m., the center of the system was about 875 miles west-northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.

Karl was moving toward the west at 15 mph. This general motion is expected to continue during the next two days.

Maximum sustained winds were near 45 mph with higher gusts. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 205 miles to the north of the center.

Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours.

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
