Tropical Storm Fiona Picks Up Speed, Expected To Weaken

MIAMI (CBMiami) - Tropical Storm Fiona has picked up speed as it moves toward the west-northwest.

At 11 a.m., the center of the system was about 1,295 miles West of the Cabo Verde Islands.

The storm had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph as it moved to the West-Northwest at 10 mph. This motion is expected to continue with some increase in forward speed for the next couple of days.

Some weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Fiona is expected to weaken to a depression over the weekend.

There are no watches or warnings in effect for this storm.
