Tropical Storm Claudette Forms Off The Mid-Atlantic Coast

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Claudette, the third storm of the 2015 hurricane season, has formed in the Atlantic.

Tropical storm Claudette formed well east of the United States mid-Atlantic coast Monday afternoon. The storm is not expected to threaten the U.S.

Tropical Storm Claudette's maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph.

As of 1 PM Monday, Claudette is about 290 miles south-southeast of Nantucket, Massachusetts and  about 550 miles south-southwest of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Claudette is moving toward the northeast near 15 mph and is expected to pick up forward speed during the next couple of days.

The tropical storm is expected to weaken by Tuesday morning and become a post-tropical cyclone by Tuesday night.
