Tropical Storm Kate Moving Away From Bahamas

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Tropical Storm Kate is strengthening as it moves away from the Bahamas.

At 9:30 p.m., the center of the system was about 175 miles southeast of the Northwestern Bahamas.

The storm had maximum sustained winds of 60 mph, with some higher gusts, as it moves north at 16 mph.

A turn toward the northeast with an increase in forward speed is expected on Tuesday.

Some additional strengthening is forecast Monday and Tuesday night, followed by little change in strength on Wednesday.

On the forecast track, Kate is expected to remain well offshore of the east coast of the United States.

Kate, the eleventh named storm of the 2015 Atlantic hurricane season, is not forecast to reach hurricane strength.
