TAMPA (CBSMiami/AP) — A Florida Highway Patrol trooper in the Tampa Bay area has been hailed as a hero after he pulled an unconscious man from a burning vehicle.

Trooper Robert Duckers was sent to check out reports of the Monday evening crash and found Michael Lamar Brewer inside the vehicle, which had crashed against several trees along the highway. Duckers broke the front windshield and was able to get Brewer out.

Both men were taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

Duckers, who had injuries to his hand and arm, was treated and released. Brewer remains at the hospital no word on his condition.

Troopers say Brewer has been charged with careless driving, driving without a license, and not wearing a seatbelt.
