79th Street Causeway Bridge stuck open, stalling traffic in North Bay Village

The 79th Street Causeway Bridge became stuck in the open position Monday afternoon, bringing traffic in both directions to a standstill, according to authorities.

Chopper 4 video showed vehicles backed up as crews worked to address the issue.

Authorities said maintenance crews were working to determine the cause of the bridge's mechanical failure.

As of Monday evening, repairs were ongoing and traffic was slowly resuming, officials said.

The Florida Department of Transportation is urging drivers to avoid the area until further notice.
