Tracking The Tropics: Tropical Storm Eta Drenching Portions Of Central America

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Tropical Storm Eta is drenching portions of Central America, producing life threatening flash flooding.

At 1 p.m. Wednesday, the center of the storm was 125 miles north-northeast of Managua, Nicaragua.

Eta was moving toward the west near 7 mph.

The system had sustained winds of 45 mph with higher gusts.

Eta will weaken as it moves over land during the next couple of days, and it should become a tropical depression by Wednesday night.

On the forecast track, the center of Eta is expected to move over northern Nicaragua through early Wednesday afternoon, and then move across Honduras later this afternoon through Thursday morning.

The system is forecast to emerge over the Gulf of Honduras or the northwestern Caribbean Sea Thursday night and Friday.

Eta is the 28th named Atlantic storm this season, tying the 2005 record for named storms. Hurricane season officially ends on November 30th.
