Tow Truck Driver Ambushed, Shot On The Job
MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Miami Police are searching for two men who ambushed and shot a tow truck driver early Friday morning.
Heriberto Fajardo said he was almost killed when two men faking car troubles shot at him while trying to rob him.
"I didn't win the lotto this week, $400 million, but I feel like I won the lottery since I'm alive and in one piece," said Fajardo.
Fajardo said he took his tow truck out to Northeast 1st Avenue and 71st Street in Miami for a call of a broken down car. The man asking for help popped the hood of the car, and said he thought the problem was a dead battery.
"I'm looking at the battery and all of a sudden I look at him he has gun in his hand," said Fajardo. "Another guy comes with another gun and I was willing to give money, it's not worth getting shot at over any amount of money, and they start shooting."
Fajardo made a run for it and said the men chased him for several blocks, shooting at him, before he was able to lose them.
"Crazy, crazy people willing to kill a person over a few dollars."
Fajardo was grazed in the head by a bullet but is expected to be ok. He said he is shaken up but thankful to be alive.
"It's incredible this happened to me, I'm a hard working man, working to make a living.. never thought this could happen to me," said Fajardo. "I'm so grateful there's a god out there looking out for me I can go back to my family."
Fajardo said everything happened so quickly he couldn't get a good description of the shooters. He said they were both wearing hoodies and were in a dark colored vehicle. If you have any information you are asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
