Toddler Feeling Great After Lung Transplant

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A toddler who was in need of a lung transplant in 2013 will soon return home feeling much better.

Texas Children's Hospital reports Julia Salas received the transplant and has recovered well.

CBS4 first shared her story with you in August of 2013.

Salas was being treated at Chris Everett Children's Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale.  She had been at the hospital since April 2013 at the time of the first report on her.  She was just 17-months-old.

Salas was hospitalized after being exposed to two different viruses and developing a respiratory illness that left her lungs irreparably damaged.

Salas told CBS4's Joan Murray that the family had travelled from their home in Spain to Brazil and later to South Florida before her daughter became ill.

It was not clear where Julia came into contact with the viruses.
