Time Is Running Out On ACA Sign Up Extension

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Time is running out for people who have not finished signing up for insurance through the Federal Marketplace.

Tuesday, April 15th, is the last day to complete the process.

The original deadline of March 31st but it was extended after those who waited until the last minute to sign up ran into major road blocks on the healthcare.gov website due to computer glitches.

Those who fail to sign up for insurance face a penalty of $95 per person per year or 1% of their yearly household income, whichever is higher.

Anyone who needs help finishing the enrollment process should head to Homestead. Staff from Community Health of South Florida will be on hand at the Martin Luther King Junior Clinica Campesina Health Center at 810 W Mowry Driver offering assistance.

Anyone who misses the midnight deadline may be able to get insurance if they have a qualifying special exception. Examples of special exceptions include people who have a life changing event like the birth of a child or a marriage, who were hospitalized, victims of a natural disaster or gaining citizenship.
