Tiger Woods Pulls Out Of Master's Due To Surgery

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Tiger Woods announced Tuesday that he is withdrawing from the Master's Championship after undergoing a successful "microdiscectomy for a pinched nerve" his official website reported.

According to the website, the procedure was a success, but will require "rest and rehabilitation for the next several weeks."

"After attempting to get ready for the Masters, and failing to make the necessary progress, I decided, in consultation with my doctors, to have this procedure done," Woods said on his website.

He continued, "I'd like to express my disappointment to the Augusta National membership, staff, volunteers and patrons that I will not be at the Masters. It's a week that's very special to me. It also looks like I'll be forced to miss several upcoming tournaments to focus on my rehabilitation and getting healthy."

The website reported that Woods is expected to resume play sometime this summer, but no firm date has been given for him to return.
