Thunderstorms Likely For Late St. Patty's Festivities
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A strong cold front moving across the Florida peninsula could bring strong and possibly severe thunderstorms across South Florida late Monday afternoon and into early Tuesday morning.
A tornado watch was issued for Central Florida Monday afternoon.
Ahead of the front, temperatures Monday should soar into the middle 80's with a stiff southerly wind that could gust as high as 25 miles per hour. The southerly winds will help to pump moisture into South Florida ahead of the front's arrival.
The line should begin to move across the peninsula throughout the day Monday and approach South Florida around 8 p.m. and then moving off the coast sometime early Tuesday morning. While the heat of the day will be lost, the atmosphere will still be setup for strong to possibly severe thunderstorms.
Much of South Florida is within the area of concern for a slight risk of severe weather, but that could change as the front moves across the state. The primary threat from the line of storms expected to move across the area late Monday night will be damaging winds. However, if any of the storms reach severe status, hail and isolated tornadoes are possible.
Once the front clears the area, the weather should return to normal Tuesday afternoon with high temperatures in the lower 80s.
