MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) -- Police are investigating a shooting that left three males hospitalized.

It happened Thursday afternoon near 19162 N.W. 46th Avenue.

Police said the victims were standing outside when gunfire erupted. As officers investigated, dozens of yellow evidence markers were scattered along the street highlighting the shell casings.

Residents were left rattled, including one mother who raced home when she heard the news, fearing the worst.

"I hope it's not my kid and the other kids," said Claudia Muller. "I heard two got airlifted, I hope that they'll be okay."

She discovered that while her son was outside, he was not shot.

All three were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
