Hialeah Police Release Names Of Family Members Killed In Double Murder Suicide

HIEALEH (CBSMiami) – Residents of a Hialeah neighborhood are still trying to figure out what led to a double murder suicide in their normally quiet neighborhood.

Hialeah Police say they have no motive in this case.

Overnight police removed the bodies of 41-year old Onelia Canales, her 16-year old daughter Jennifer Cordero, and Canales' husband of three months 46-year old Juan Carlos Hernandez from a home at W 6th Avenue and W 40th Place.

CBS4's Peter D'Oench spoke with one of their family members as he was locking up the home. He did not want to give his name but he said, "They were the best in the world."

A neighbor, who did not wish to be identified, said the last time anyone can remember seeing the couple or the teen was on Sunday. On Tuesday family members and Hernandez's co-workers went to check on them and found the bodies.

"They were crying and screaming," the unidentified neighbor said. "They had gone to the side and they looked in the master bedroom and saw the bodies.

There was a report that the victim's brother was screaming in the street about the husband recently buying a gun.

"He was screaming, 'This is what you wanted the gun for! This is what you wanted to do. You know kill our whole family,'" a neighbor said.

On Wednesday afternoon, D'Oench stopped by a home that records show belongs to members of Juan Carlos Hernandez's family. An unidentified man stepped out of the house and said, "I don't want to talk and nothing will be talked about. I'm going to talk about nothing with you."

Neighbors said the couple had moved into the neighborhood two to three months ago.

"Very surprised, no problem, never police, nothing," said neighbor Carmen Cepeda. "They were good people."

Hialeah police said they are still working on what led Hernandez to kill his wife and stepdaughter before taking his own life. They added that there was no documented history of domestic disturbances or domestic violence involving this family.
