Thousands Gather For Slain Fla. Deputy's Funeral

ORLANDO (CBSMiami/AP) —Thousands gathered on Saturday to pay their respects to a slain sheriff's deputy who was shot and killed while responding to a car burglary call.

Law enforcement agencies from across Florida came to the First Baptist Church of Orlando for the funeral of Orange County Deputy Jonathan Scott Pine.

Gov. Rick Scott has ordered all American and state flags be flown at half-staff for Pine.

Authorities say Pine was responding to reports of car break-ins late Monday when he encountered Benjamin Holtermann. According to officials, Pine chased Holtermann through nearby backyards but Holtermann opened fire, shooting and killing Pine.

Holtermann was later found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in a nearby neighborhood.

Pine will be buried at a cemetery in Gotha.
