ORLANDO (CBSMiami/AP) - As the nation marks Veterans Day in observance of those who have served our country, new numbers show a plurality of vets in the state served during the Vietnam War era.

According to information released by the U.S. Census Bureau, almost a third of Florida's vets are from that time period.

About a quarter were veterans during peacetime eras, and about 15 percent were from the first Gulf War era.

The Census also said half of the veterans in the state are senior citizens and 7.4 percent of Florida's veterans are female, slightly higher than the national rate.
