MIAMI (CBSMiami) –Miami Heat players did more than dish out baskets on Monday. The organization hosted its 23rd Annual Heat Thanksgiving Celebration that assisted underprivileged families.

The festivities were held from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Miami Rescue Mission at 2020 NW 1st Ave.

The entire organization, including all the Heat players, attended the event.

"It's always a joy to come out and show people that we care. Saying 'hello, happy thanksgiving, god bless.' Little things go a long way," said all-star forward Chris Bosh.

All residents of the Greater Miami area were invited, but the event was especially meaningful for a select group of approximately 600 underprivileged families.

"You know this our community, I've been here for 12 years. This is a Wade community and it's our job to make sure we get in the community and continue to give back," said Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade.

Each handpicked family received a complete Thanksgiving meal; replete with a turkey, canned goods, side items and beverages.

"It means the world to us because we don't know when we're going to have a wonderful dinner like this anywhere else," an attendee said. "It's a blessing to the community, because a lot of people wouldn't get fed or have anything to eat. It's nothing but a blessing. We have a lot to be thankful for."

The Heat Dancers, Burnie the Heat mascot, DJ M Dot and the Xtreme Team were also there for the families' entertainment.

"Overtown is part of the Heat, and the Heat is part of Overtown. That's the way it's been and we're so proud to be part of it. It's a really fun day," said team President Pat Riley.
