Terrorism, Nat'l Security Top Topics In Presidential Race

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Terrorism and National Security are the main topics for Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton as the candidates react to the New York area bombings.
Trump is taking his message to a key battleground state as Clinton talks with national security advisors and prepares for the upcoming first presidential debate.
Trump says immigration security is national security and addressed the bombings in New York and New Jersey at a rally in North Carolina Tuesday.
"These attacks were made possible by open immigration system," said Trump.
Trump scheduled two events in North Carolina - a state that could decide the winner on November 8th.
The Republican nominee repeated his call to temporarily suspend immigration from areas with ties to terrorism.
"We must stop the flow of refugees that Hillary Clinton wants to increase," said Trump.
Clinton has called Trump's words a terrorist recruitment tool.
Clinton has no public events scheduled Tuesday. She held a conference call with national security advisors about the recent bombings and efforts to disrupt terrorist recruiting online.
Clinton also called in to the Steve Harvey Morning Show and touched on her plans for next week's debate.
"I am going to do my very best to communicate as clearly and fearlessly as I can in face of the insults and the attacks...that we've seen coming from my opponent. I can take it, Steve. I can take that kind of stuff," said Clinton.
The topics in Monday's 90-minute debate include securing America, achieving prosperity and America's direction.
Clinton plans to shift the topic back to the economy during a speech in Orlando on Wednesday.
