Police Search For Suspect In Sexual Assault Of Teen Waiting For School Bus

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Miami-Dade police are searching for a suspect in the early-morning sexual assault of a teen girl SW Miami-Dade.

Police say the girl told them she was waiting for her school bus when a man in his 30s approached her and forced her to a nearby field and sexually battered her.

Investigators with the department's Special Victims Bureau said the 16-year-old was in the area of SW 267th Street and 142nd Avenue, at around 6:30 a.m. Friday, when she was approached.

Police have not given a description of her assailant.

"The young woman was actually able to get on the bus and call her mother and she informed her of what had occurred and her mother immediately called Miami-Dade police and our detectives have been at the scene ever since," said Argemis Colome, with the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Police say the girl did the right thing by contacting her mother.

They're now on high alert searching for a sexual predator and they want parents to be more cautious.

"This is an extremely disturbing crime this is only a 16-year-old female and we need to get this guy off the street behind bars as soon as possible," Colome said.

Ana Bello, a nearby resident said, "I'm very sad about the situation because I have a daughter too."

She also added that she has been living in the area for about four years and is thinking about moving.

Lisandra, who lives down the street, was horrified when she heard the news.

She said, "It's horrible to know that my daughter can go outside to wait for the bus and be raped in daylight."

Another man who did not want to show his face on camera said the area needs more security.
