DANIA BEACH (CBSMiami) – Two brothers are in critical condition Tuesday after a vehicle struck them and left the scene Monday.

Kelv-ron Florence, 14, and Apollo Brown Jr., 8, also known as A.J., were struck at 100 Bryan Road just before 7 p.m. Monday, officials said.

"I just need my boys. I want my boys at home with me. I just need my boys," said Selena Brown, the boys' mother who was at work at the town of the crash.

Brown said both boys are on ventilators.

"You left the kids behind," said Apollo Brown Sr., the boys' father. "They didn't deserve it. You could've just stopped."

The boys' grandmother said she was going to pick the boys up from a basketball game at Attucks Middle School, Florence's school, but had a flat tire. While she was waiting to borrow her neighbor's car, the boys decided to walk home—that's when they got hit.

"They were walking on the right side of Bryan Road and it was dark," BSO spokesperson Dani Moschella said late Monday night.

Detectives said the vehicle is 2012 to 2015 Metallic grey Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

"Cruel," said Benita McKnight, the boy's Godmother. "It's a terrible world that we're living in. I couldn't even hit a dog and not stop. They hit two kids and keep going. It's crazy."

Investigators found several pieces of the car at the scene that could be critical evidence in the case including the trucks grille emblem, a piece of the bumper and shattered head light.

Detectives said an after-the-fact witness saw the Toyota fleeing the scene and alerted police.

BSO said detectives met with Toyota employees from a local dealership to determine the make of the car that hit the boys, using the pieces left behind.

The boys' family is pleading with the driver of the car and the public to come forward.

"Just go and turn yourself in because it's hurting the family more and more every minute," said Addie McCrea, the boys' grandmother.

Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS. You can remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward.
