Teacher Says Anti-Obama Views Got Him Banned From Attending Speech

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – When President Barack Obama appeared at Coral Reef High School, he was met with applause and cheers. But at least one Coral Reef Senior High teacher said his dislike of Obama kept him from attending the president's speech.

According to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald, social studies teacher Randall Scott said his inflammatory statements against the president led the Secret Service to ban him from the president's speech.

"I was singled out for using my right to free speech," Scott wrote in a letter he sent to the media.

Miami-Dade Schools said that Scott's views were so inflammatory that two students requested to be withdrawn from his class prior to the president's visit, according to the Herald. The withdrawals prompted Miami-Dade Schools Police and the Secret Service to review his remarks.

Miami-Dade Schools spokesman John Schuster told the Herald the matter is under review and that due to the size restrictions of the venue, not every teacher, student, or staffer was allowed to attend the event. Schuster told the Herald that local administrators decided who would attend to represent the school.
